VASSAL

This is an application that lets two (or more) players play a game on their computer either in real-time or by sending log files back and forth. It is programmed in JAVA, so it doesn’t work on your ipad, but it does work on Macs and Windows and Linux. It’s was originally designed specifically for Advanced Squad Leader (hence its original name was VASL not VASSAL, as in Virtual ASL). But it has long since been opened up to thousands of games. Each game has its own module that you download and add to your VASSAL installation. Some publishers don’t allow VASSAL modules to be made of their products, and the VASSAL community respects that. In all cases, at least one of the two players playing via VASSAL should have a copy of the game being played. Don’t be a turd. Oh. VASSAL is completely free.
